Hi Everyone, I know you will think I'm crazy, but I've decided to run the New York Marathon in November this year.

In November 2010 my life changed forever when I lost my wonderful, inspiring Dad, Richard. He had spent three years battling a rare form of cancer in his liver that had metastasized from his bowel. He was only 65.

Unfortunately, he had never taken a bowel screen test kit (an easy to take, home test), and I don’t think he even knew about them. He began having symptons in late 2006 , but it took the hospital  over six months of exploration to finally diagnose the large tumour blocking his bowel. He had emergency surgery during which they removed two feet of bowel, but they were unable to do anything about the liver tumours. If his cancer had been diagnosed earlier he may still be with me, chatting about the rugby or the state of Australian politics.

This is why I am running the New York Marathon, to raise funds for Bowel Cancer Australia, a charity determined to raise awareness of this disease. Did you know that if caught early enough 90% of bowel cancers can be treated successfully?
